On July 27th and 28th, the Valatie Fire Department will host the 87th Annual Columbia County Volunteer FireFighters Association Convention and Parade.
On Friday the 27th, there will be a block party held at the Valatie Firehouse, 3619 Mechanic Street, in the Village of Valatie. The block party is open to the public and will feature "The Refrigerators", a high energy ten piece band. The grounds will open at 6pm and food and beverage will be sold on grounds. Friday night will also be the first session of the annual meeting of the Columbia County Volunteer FireFighters Association. The meeting will be called to order at 7:30pm, held also at the fire station.
On Saturday the 28th, the annual parade steps off at 2pm. The parade starts on State Route 9 in the village of Valatie and makes its way onto Main Street. The parade then turns onto Mechanic Street where it will end at the firehouse. The parade may be viewed anywhere along the route. Following the parade will be the presentration of trophys and entertainment. All units are asked to lineup by 1pm.
Nexts years annual convention and parade will be hosted by The City of Hudson Fire Department. Craig Haigh of H.W. Rogers Hose Co#2, is currently the 1st Vice President of the CCVFA, and will take the reins as President of the CCVFA at the second session meeting on Saturday. Craig Haigh is also Hudsons' 1st Assistant Fire Chief.
