Proposition 2 - Establishing a retirement fund for the volunteers

By Fire Commissioner Timothy Hutchings
October 16, 2016

On November 8th while casting your ballot be sure to turn the ballot over and vote for Proposition 2. If passed, Proposition 2 authorizes the city to establish a Length of Service Awards Program (more commonly known as a retirement program) for members of the City of Hudson Fire Department.

A copy of the notice to the Columbia County Board of Elections is attached. Please review this important document to educate yourself about what the program is.

The City of Hudson Fire Department has been all Volunteer since it's inception in 1794. Over the past few decades it has become a challenge to not only the Hudson Fire Department but the fire service in general to recruit and retain quality volunteers.

This incentive will be used as a tool to retain firefighters who are already trained as well as recruit new, forward thinking individuals who are willing to commit to such an emotionally rewarding volunteer career.

There will be a public meeting held on November 2nd, 6pm, at the Hudson Fire Department Central Station which will outline the program and address any questions you may have.
