At approximately 10:30am today, the City of Hudson Firefighters were requested to respond, to Aarons Rental at 350 Fairview Avenue in the Town of Greenport, with a F.A.S.T. team. The Greenport Fire Department was operating at an electrical fire with a moderate smoke condition within the building.

Under the direction of Chief James Schermerhorn, Engine/Rescue 279 responded and staged within the parking lot. The crews from Greenport stopped the fire and helped limit the damage done to the store. Crews assisted with removing the smoke from the building.

A firefighter assist and search team (F.A.S.T.), also known as a rapid intervention team/crew/dispatch (RIT/RIC/RID), is a team of two or more firefighters dedicated solely to the search and rescue of other firefighters in distress.

The City of Hudson and the Town of Greenport Fire Departments have proudly worked hand in hand with each other over the years providing F.A.S.T. teams for each other during fires.
