August 8, 2017

At 01:37pm on Tuesday August 8th, City of Hudson Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a possible structure fire at 328 Columbia Street in the City of Hudson. The initial report was smoke coming from the roof and fire alarms activating within the structure.

Within minutes, Engine 30-25 arrived on scene and confirmed a working structure fire. Fire was visible in the attic of the multi apartment residential structure. Greenport 25-45 and their FAST Team was requested immediately to the scene.

Under the command of Chief Anthony Demarco Jr., hand lines were immediately deployed in the building from Engine 30-25 while Tower 32-55 set up for roof ventilation operations. The fire was knocked down within minutes. Interior operations and overhaul was supplemented by crews from Engine 28-28 and Engine/Rescue 27-42.

The Greenport Fire Department and the Catskill Fire Department were requested to the scene with manpower to assist with operations due to the limited personnel that is available during the day.

The fire is still under investigation and no cause has been determined. The investigation is being handled by the Hudson City Police Department Detectives Office with the assistance of Fire Department personnel. The building remains unoccupied until repairs can be made. No injuries were reported.

Additional agencies on scene assisting were the Columbia County Fire Coordinators Office, the Columbia County Sheriffs Office, the Hudson City Police Department, City of Hudson Code Enforcement, the Greenport Rescue Squad, and National Grid.

Crews on scene worked well together and did a great job knocking this fire down quickly.
