Kitchen Fire During Snow Storm

At 18:30 hours Hudson Firefighters were dispatched for a reported fire alarm sounding in building 13 of Hudson Terrace Apartments. On arrival Assistant Chief Shawn Hoffman found a heavy smoke condition and an odor that indicated a working fire.

Engine 30, upon entering Apartment 13E found a fire in the kitchen on top of the stove. The fire was quickly extinguished and the crews from Engine 30 and Tower 32 conducted a primary search with no victims found. The building was ventilated and the scene was turned over to HTA maintenance.

Damage was confined to the kitchen/stove area. The apartment with was vacant was in process of having new tenants move in. A box was placed on the stove top which activated one burner which caused the box and contents to ignite.

No injuries were reported and units were back in service within 45 minutes.
