Three members of the City of Hudson Fire Department completed training to become National Child Passenger Safety Seat Technicians. Firefighters Nick Pierro, Dan Hickey Jr., and Justin Elliott are now certified technicians and will join technician Mike McCrady as HFD’s first Child Passenger Safety Team.

The extensive four day training class culminated with HFD’s first ever Child Passenger Safety Seat Check at the Central Station. The event drew approximately 25 families and child caregivers seeking help with their car seats.

The new technician team worked to educate caregivers about car seat safety and proper installation of their seats. The team worked closely with the caregivers to explain how to select the proper car seat, whether the child should be forward or rear facing in the car seat, seat placement within the vehicle, installation techniques, and proper child harnessing in the car seat. After educating the caregivers, the team worked with the caregivers on actually installing the seats in their own vehicles.

During the event HFD’s new team was assisted by Hudson Police Department‘s Child Passenger Safety Seat Technicians.

The HFD Child Passenger Safety Team plans on hosting several Car Seat Check Up events annually and by appointment as necessary.
